Origin and history

The Maison Calcat, also called Logis du Loup, was built between 1928 and 1932 in Blois, on an old vineyard on the hills overlooking the Loire. Sponsored by the Calcat couple, it embodies remarkable architectural and decorative coherence, typical of the Art Deco style. Only notable modification: the garage, later transformed. This monument is distinguished by its stylistic unit, carefully chosen materials and preserved decorative elements, making a rare example of Art Deco in the region.

Designed by architects Maurice-Charles and Lucien Martineau, major figures of the inter-war period in Vienna and Poitiers, this house was designed as a custom-made private residence. Its strategic location, integrating the topography of the places, reinforces its originality. The house, with its original decorations, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 28 March 1997, highlighting its exceptional heritage value.

Located at 130-134 Albert-Ier Street, Maison Calcat enjoys a privileged location, reflecting the taste of its sponsors for an urban and natural setting. Today, owned by a private company, it bears witness to a period of fascination for bourgeois residential architecture, combining modernity and elegance. Its state of conservation and history make it an essential cultural landmark in Blois.
