Facades and roofs (Case AI 259, 260): inscription by order of 6 March 1933

Origin and history

The house at numbers 6 and 8 quai Sainte-Catherine in Honfleur is an emblematic building dating from the 16th century. It is distinguished by its typical architecture of this period, with a facade and roof inscribed under the title of Historic Monuments since 6 March 1933. This ranking reflects its heritage importance in the Honfleur urban landscape.

The monument is located on the St. Catherine's wharf, a historic site of the city, once identified under numbers 93 and 95. This area, close to the Old Basin, reflects the port and commercial activity that has marked Honfleur from the Middle Ages. The house, by its conservation, offers an overview of the bourgeois or merchant residence of the Renaissance in Normandy.

No information is available on the original owners or specific uses of this building in the 16th century. However, his inscription among the historical monuments of Calvados highlights his role in local collective memory. Sources also mention its exact address, confirmed by Merimée bases and GPS coordinates, although the accuracy of its location is considered poor (level 5/10).
