Origin and history
This house, built at the end of the 19th century in Préveranges, is distinguished by its three windows of distinct shapes, made by its owner Joseph Châtelet, carpenter. These works, although technically modest, illustrate the influence of companionship in the French villages of the time. Their aesthetic value and their rarity make them remarkable evidence of local craftsmanship.
The house became a mill in 1927, which continued until 1992. Inside, the milling device is still present. The skylights, added at the beginning of the 20th century, symbolize the professional pride of Châtelet, perhaps helped by his cousin Louis Châtelet, also a companion. The facades and roofs, protected since 1997, reflect this artisanal and industrial heritage.
Located on departmental road 997, this house-shop embodies the transition between traditional housing and rural economic activities. Its architecture, combining limestone and carpenter know-how, bears witness to a time when manual trades shaped the identity of the territories. However, the accuracy of its location remains poor (level 5/10).
