Facades and roofs (Case D 525): inscription by order of 25 September 1980
Origin and history
The house of Saint-André-de-Majencoules, dated from the 17th century, is distinguished by its partly on the rock and its round tower at the southeast corner. This building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments in 1980, retains traces of the re-use of stones in its windows, some of which have been sledging. Its defensive appearance is reinforced by murderers, while the interior reveals vaulted parts of ridges, two of which have wooden chimneys (one complete, the other partial) dating from the 18th century for the latter.
The precise location of the house is the hamlet of Rey, in the commune of Saint-André-de-Majencoules (Gard, Occitanie). Its architecture thus combines residential and defensive elements, typical of the rural buildings of this period in mountainous region. The facades and roofs, protected since 1980, show a preserved heritage despite a geographical location whose accuracy is considered very satisfactory (note 8/10).
No information is available on the current use of the building (visit, rental, accommodation), or on any historic owners or sponsors. Sources are limited to architectural descriptions and legal protection, without mentioning socio-economic contexts or anecdotes related to its construction or occupants.
