Origin and history
The Guignard House, located at 3 Boulingrin Square in Toulouse, is a historical monument representative of the architecture of the first half of the 20th century. Its façade is distinguished by an irregular base in rubble and a smooth coating, animated by openings of various shapes. Among these, the entrance door in the middle of the corner and the tripartite bay of the loggia, added during the enlargement of 1935, bring a characteristic elegance to the whole. These elements reflect an aesthetic research specific to bourgeois residences of the time.
The Guignard house was designed in 1932 by architect Edmond Pilette, also responsible for the development of Gontaut-Biron and the nearby Calespoutrat mansion. Pilette also supervised its extension in 1935, consolidating its architectural style in this Toulouse area. The facades and roofs of the house, protected since 2018, illustrate the heritage importance of this type of construction in the urban landscape of Toulouse.
This monument is part of a coherent architectural complex, including several buildings and private hotels in the François-Verdier alleys and adjacent streets, all linked to Edmond Pilette's work. These achievements reflect a period of urban development marked by the emergence of cossuous residences, destined for a growing bourgeoisie. The Guignard House, by its history and style, thus embodies a page of Toulouse architectural evolution at the beginning of the 20th century.
