Origin and history
The house located in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat is a marked building whose facade features an architectural unit marked on the ground floor. It has a series of 4 broken arched merchant bays, topped with crows to support awnings. A molded cord, worn by undecorated modillons, highlights the openings of the first floor. These elements suggest an initial commercial vocation, typical of medieval urban buildings.
The construction would actually date from the 4th quarter of the 13th or early 14th century, although the initial period mentioned was the 12th century. The upper floors have undergone major changes: the original bays, probably geminated, were replaced in the seventeenth century by larger rectangular openings. In addition, the second floor was removed on part of the house at an unspecified time, altering its original volume.
The internal distribution no longer corresponds to the original state. Today, the building houses two housing units, resulting either from a subsequent subdivision or from an initial organisation. A staircase, dated from the 4th quarter of the 17th or the 1st half of the 18th century, as well as a door in a basket handle arranged in the 2nd quarter of the 18th century in a broken arch bay, testify to the successive adaptations. The façade, classified as a Historic Monument since 1950, remains the main protected element.
The exact address, 2 Place Gay-Lussac, and GPS coordinates confirm its location in the heart of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, in Haute-Vienne. The accuracy of this location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), although the sources do not provide any additional details on its current use (visit, accommodation, etc.).
