Origin and history

The house in Crémieu, in the department of Isère (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is a 15th century civil building. It is classified as a Historical Monument, with a specific protection covering its facades and roofs, officially registered by decree of 17 February 1982. Its exact address, 34 rue Frandin, is listed in the Merimée base, although approximate GPS coordinates also place it near Place des Visitandines.

The location of this monument is assessed as "passable" (note of 5/10) according to the geographical accuracy criteria. A photograph of the building, made by Xavier Caré, is available under Creative Commons license. The main façade, visible from the street, is accessible to the public all year round. This type of medieval house reflects the urban planning and construction techniques of the period, often related to the development of towns and local commerce.

Crémieu, in the 15th century, was a dynamic city integrated in the Duchy of Savoie and then in the Kingdom of France. The bourgeois or artisanal houses, like this one, served both as a dwelling and as a place of work (shops, workshops). Their preservation now allows us to study the evolution of lifestyles and civil architecture in Dauphiné. The 1982 protection emphasizes its heritage interest, although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not detail its specific history or its occupants.
