Facade: registration by order of 2 December 1926

Origin and history

This house, located at 43 rue du Commerce in Lons-le-Saunier, dates from the 4th quarter of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is representative of the civil architecture of this period in the region, with a facade protected by a registration order in 1926. Its location in the city centre, on a shopping street, suggests a residential or artisanal role in local life.

Lons-le-Saunier, capital of the Jura department, was at that time a dynamic city, marked by thermal and commercial activities. The bourgeois or artisanal houses, like this one, reflected the city's growing prosperity, integrated into a regional economic network. Their preservation today bears witness to the urban and architectural evolution of the Franche-Comté under the Old Regime and at the beginning of the modern era.
