Origin and history

Rahon's house is a civil building built in the second half of the eighteenth century, more precisely in 1750 according to the archives. This building, located on 4 rue de l'Église, illustrates the bourgeois domestic architecture of this period in Franche-Comté. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1995 protects its facades, roofs, as well as an interior staircase and a kitchen fireplace, characteristic elements of its era.

The house experienced a significant expansion during the same half of the 18th century, probably reflecting the growing ease of its owners. Minor modifications were made at the end of the 19th century, partially adapting the building to the needs of its time without altering its historical character. Today, it bears witness to the region's rural architectural heritage.

Classified by ministerial decree of 3 July 1995, this house is representative of bourgeois dwellings in the Lons-le-Saunier region. Its location in the village of Rahon, in the Jura department, makes it a local example of the evolution of habitat between the 18th and 19th centuries. The accuracy of its location is considered 'a priori satisfactory', facilitating its identification in the urban landscape.
