Origin and history

The house at 28 rue de Saint-Omer in Aire-sur-la-Lys is a building dating from the first half of the 16th century. This monument, which was inscribed under the title of Historic Monuments by order of 25 February 1948, is distinguished by its facade and roof on street, elements protected for their heritage value. The location of this building, in the department of Pas-de-Calais, is considered satisfactory, with an accuracy estimated at 7/10 according to the criteria of the Merimée base.

Aire-sur-la-Lys, the city of Nord-Pas-de-Calais (now Hauts-de-France), was in the Renaissance a dynamic city, marked by trade and civil architecture reflecting local prosperity. The houses of this period, like this one, often bear witness to the evolution of the construction techniques and architectural style of the period.
