Origin and history

The house at 60 Blatin Street in Clermont-Ferrand is a neo-classical villa built in the early twentieth century. It is distinguished by its brick and stone structure, rising on two floors plus a floor of attic, topped by broken roofs. The building is characterized by an architectural decoration centered on the exuberance of the staples, decorated with volutes and loaded garlands. This monument, designed by architect Sauzet in 1907, reflects the eclectic and refined aesthetics of the period, blending classical rigour and baroque ornaments.

The interior of the house, as well as its garden surrounded by a fence wall, has been protected under the Historic Monuments since 2000. The remarkable elements include a staircase with ironwork, woodwork and decorated fireplaces. These details bear witness to artisanal know-how and a desire to create a residential space that was both functional and aesthetically completed, typical of the bourgeois homes of this period.

The location of the villa, in the centre of Clermont-Ferrand, is part of an area marked by the urban and architectural expansion of the early twentieth century. The city, then in the midst of modernization, sees the emergence of constructions combining tradition and innovation, as evidenced by the realization of Sauzet. The listing of the house as a Historic Monument underscores its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its state of conservation.

The accuracy of the location is assessed as fair (note 5/10), which may indicate minor uncertainties in its exact location. Despite this, the official address (60 rue Blatin) and associated GPS coordinates clearly identify the site. The villa remains a representative example of the domestic architecture of its time, illustrating stylistic trends and construction techniques in vogue in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region at the beginning of the twentieth century.
