Origin and history
The house Valette, sometimes confused with the house Vialette, is an emblematic building of the city centre of Entraygues-sur-Truyère, in the north of Aveyron. Dating from the 16th century, it is distinguished by its stone portal, inscribed in historical monuments since 1928. This gate, decorated with two separate bumpers — one for pedestrians and the other for riders — testifies to its past use as an entrance to an inn, a central place in the social and commercial life of the city in modern times.
The house, located at 8 rue Righte, was partially rebuilt in the 19th century, although its original structure and its most remarkable architectural elements (door and vantal) were preserved. Its designation as historic monuments relates exclusively to these elements, highlighting their heritage value. Available sources, such as the Merimée or Monumentum base, confirm its exact address and Insee code (12094), linking the monument to the urban and architectural history of the Rouergue.
The building illustrates the many functions of medieval and renaissant houses in Occitanie: accommodation, commerce, and sometimes assembly. Its portal, with its differentiated collisions, reflects a social organization where riders and pedestrians lived together, while marking a hierarchy of usages. Today, although details of his visit or current use are lacking, Valette House remains a material witness to local history, accessible through resources such as Wikipedia or departmental archives.
