Origin and history

The log house located in Grande-Rue in Saint-Aignan, in the Loir-et-Cher department, is an example of preserved traditional architecture. This type of construction, characterized by an apparent wooden frame, was common in the towns and towns of France between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Although the exact period of its construction is not specified, its classification as Historic Monuments in 1928 demonstrates its heritage importance and representativeness for local history.

In Saint-Aignan, as in many communes in the Centre-Val de Loire region, wooden houses served both residential, commercial and sometimes workshops for artisans. These buildings reflected the social and economic organization of small towns, where wood, an abundant material, was widely used. Their preservation now allows us to understand the lifestyles and construction techniques of the past, while offering a tangible testimony of the regional architectural heritage.
