Origin and history

The present house, located in Narbonne, was probably built in the first half of the seventeenth century, after the morcellation of an older building dating from 1576. At that time, it formed only one set with the neighbouring building. The building is distinguished by its inner courtyard, where a gallery is supported by three arches in full hanger, each decorated with striking keys decorated with typical Narbonne bosses.

The staircase, divided into two flights by a deciphered wall, has an architectural peculiarity: a rotating part supported by arches, supplemented by two additional arches in the bisector planes. Above a modern niche, an armored crest of the Black family, surmounted by a plume crest and surrounded by oak leaves, attests to the historical importance of this family, which has given the city many notables.

The facade on the courtyard, the staircase and the armored cartridge were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 19 December 1946. These elements reflect the architectural and social prestige of the period, as well as the influence of bourgeois families in the urban development of Narbonne in the 17th century.
