Façade including wrought iron balconies: inscription by order of 25 June 1929

Origin and history

The house at 8, rue des Hallebardes is a historic monument located in Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin department. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it is a typical example of the civil architecture of this period in the Alsatian region. Its designation as historic monuments in 1929 underscores its heritage importance, especially for its decorative elements such as wrought iron balconies.

This building suffered damage during the conflicts of the twentieth century, as evidenced by the archives of Monumentum. Despite these vicissitudes, there remains an architectural testimony of Strasbourg, a city marked by a rich and turbulent history. The precise location, in the heart of the city centre, reinforces its historical and tourist interest.

The façade, protected by ministerial decree since 1929, illustrates the know-how of the local artisans of the period. The wrought iron balconies, characteristic of the rococo or neoclassical style, reflect the influence of European artistic currents in an Alsace then under French domination. Today, this house is part of the urban landscape of Strasbourg, alongside other listed monuments.
