Origin and history
Villa Jeanne, located in Bouscat en Gironde, is a house built in 1898 by architects Bertrand-Alfred Duprat and his son Cyprien-Alfred Duprat. This monument illustrates an architectural eclecticism, combining elements from the 16th and 17th centuries, while integrating a wrought iron gate supported by piles surmounted by sphinges, recalling the 18th century style. This mix of styles reflects the artistic trends of the late 19th century, where architects freely inspired different eras to create original works.
The villa was classified as Historic Monument by decree of 26 February 2001, thus protecting the entire house, its park and its entrance gates. This classification highlights the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its integration into a preserved landscape environment. The location of the villa, at 41 avenue de la Libération, makes it a significant part of the local heritage of Bouscat, a commune in the Bordeaux suburbs.
The property now belongs to a private company, which limits its access to the public. However, its portal and facade remain visible from the public space, offering an overview of its distinctive architecture. The architects Duprat, father and son, have marked the region with several achievements, and Villa Jeanne bears witness to their mastery of the historical styles revisited through a creative prism peculiar to their time.
