House built in 1778.
Origin and history
The house called Le Clique was built in 1778 by Charles Cornic, on an earlier structure probably dating from the seventeenth century, originally used as a canvas hall. This new building, located near Cornic's home, was intended to accommodate staff employed at Morlaix Harbour. Its architecture thus reflects its utilitarian role in the harbour economic context of the time.
Over the decades, the house was enlarged with two appentis: one on the south gable in 1882 and the other on the north gable in the early 20th century. These extensions reflect the changing needs of port activity. Surrounding remains, such as buried columns or a defence platform, highlight the strategic importance of this area in the historic development of the harbour.
Classified as a Historic Monument in 1995, Le Clique House includes in its protection the defence platform and an adjacent parcel. These elements, combined with its history of maritime commerce, make it a major architectural and social testimony of Morlaix between the 18th and 20th centuries.
