Origin and history

The villa "La Détente", built in 1905 in Nogent-sur-Marne, is an emblematic example of the Art Nouveau current. Its sinuous façade and its ornamental plant sculptures are directly inspired by the first creations of Hector Guimard, pioneer of this architectural movement. Interior decorations, remarkably preserved, include mosaics, woodwork, carpentry, as well as a unique linoleum-like wallpaper. Two flamed sandstone fireplaces and a rare staircase ramp ironwork complete this coherent artistic ensemble.

The house, fully protected (including its garden and entrance gate) by a registration order of 27 May 2013, illustrates the creative daring of its architect, Albert Nachbaur. The latter, both designer and designer, was able to merge organic aesthetics and functionality, making this villa a valuable testimony to the architectural innovation of the early twentieth century. Its exact address, 3 boulevard de la République, and its state of conservation make it an accessible monument, although its current status (visit, rental) is not specified.

Classified as a Historical Monument, the villa is part of the Franciscan heritage as an unknown jewel of Art Nouveau. Its recent listing (2013) highlights the late but deserved recognition of its historical and artistic importance. The photographs available, such as those of Chabe01 under Creative Commons license, make it possible to appreciate its architectural details, despite a GPS location deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10).
