Origin and history
The House of the Sénéchal of Uzerche, classified as a Historical Monument, is a remarkable example of 16th century civil architecture. Its façade is distinguished by three towers of various shapes: a circular tower in the centre, a polygonal tower in the south and a square tower in the north. The bays, adorned with Renaissance-characteristic mouldings, as well as the chamfered and molded ridge portal, bear witness to the care taken in its construction. A scallop turret, based on a moulure strain, adds to its defensive and aesthetic character.
The interior of the house reveals a staircase accessible by a vaulted passage in the middle hanger, located at the western end of the facade on south courtyard. This monument is particularly marked by history, since it welcomed King Louis XIII in 1632. The protected elements, such as facades, roofs and interior staircases, were registered by decree of 28 January 1986. Today, the house belongs to the municipality of Uzerche and remains a symbol of the local architectural heritage.
The location of the House of Sénéchal, at 19 Rue de la Justice in Uzerche, makes it a central point in this town of Corrèze, in New Aquitaine. Although the information on its geographical accuracy is estimated as fair, its exact address is documented in the Merimée database. This monument illustrates both the role of senechaux in the royal administration and the evolution of architectural styles during the Renaissance in Limousin.
