Origin and history

The house of the Tower of Braü, also known as Le Trencat, is an emblematic monument located in the municipality of Baux-de-Provence. Built in the 16th century, it embodies the civil architecture of this period in the Alpilles region. Its alternative name, Le Trencat, could evoke a local topographic or historical particularity, although the sources do not specify its exact origin.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 9 June 1904, this house is a testament to the Provencal built heritage. It is now owned by the municipality and is associated with the Baux-de-Provence Museum of History and Archaeology. Its precise location, at 5117 rue du Trencat, makes it a point of interest in the historical heart of the village, marked by its rich medieval and reborn past.

The Bouches-du-Rhône, a department to which the Baux-de-Provence belong, houses many comparable monuments, reflecting the cultural and strategic importance of this area since the Middle Ages. The house of the Tower of Braü is thus part of a wider heritage complex, illustrating both the architectural evolution and the social dynamics of Provence during the Renaissance.
