Origin and history

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is a Catholic church located in the village of Barneville-la-Bertran, Calvados department, Normandy. This monument is distinguished by its bell tower, which is the only element protected under the Historic Monuments since 17 May 1933. The building is part of the local religious architectural landscape, typical of the small Norman communes.

Parish churches such as Barneville-la-Bertran played a central role in community life over the past centuries. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, marking the highlights of social and agricultural life. In this region of Lower Normandy, religious architecture often reflects Romanesque and Gothic influences, adapted to local resources and the needs of small rural communities.
