Origin and history

The Church of the Virgin of La Neuville-Bosmont is a religious building located in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. Although its original date of construction is not specified, it is attested as early as the 18th century, with major works documented.

In 1732 André II de Fay-d'Athies, Count of Cilly, obtained permission from the Abbé des Fages and the chapter of Saint-Laurent de Rozoy-sur-Serre to erect a private chapel near the sacristy. This chapel, intended for his use and that of his wife Claude de Boham, reflects the influence of local lords on religious buildings.

The church choir was rebuilt in 1782 thanks to joint funding: 450 books each from the chapter of Saint-Laurent de Rozoy-sur-Serre and the Abbey of Thenailles, while the parish priest Nicolas Chemin completed the sum with his own funds. The latter had already contributed to the decoration of the church and the renovation of the walls of the cemetery, illustrating his commitment to the local heritage.
