Origin and history

The church Notre-Dame-du-Très-Saint-Sacrement, also known as Notre-Dame des Cottages, is located in the Cottages district of Tremblay-en-France (Seine-Saint-Denis). It initially met the spiritual needs of the workers living in this area from the 1920s. A first wooden chapel was built, followed in 1938 by the chapel Notre-Dame des Victoires, consecrated by Bishop Roland Gosselin.

Population growth prompted Father Hubert Ten Haaf, parish priest, to build in 1951 the Notre-Dame Médiatrice chapel on Cuvier Street. In 1961 he launched the construction of the present church with the help of parishioners. The building, in bricks and with raised entrance, was consecrated in 1968 by Bishop Jacques Le Cordier. Accessibility works were carried out in 2015 thanks to the work of the Cardinal's Buildings.

The church embodies the social and religious history of Tremblay-en-France, marked by industrialization and community engagement. Its sober architecture, typical of postwar parish constructions, reflects the modest means but the determination of the faithful. The Cottages district, originally a worker, now retains a strong identity linked to this heritage.
