Origin and history
The church Notre-Dame de Frazé, located in the department of Eure-et-Loir in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a building whose origins date back to the 12th century for its nave and semi-circular apse. These Romanesque elements constitute the historical heart of the building, testifying to its seniority and central role in local religious life since the Middle Ages.
In the 2nd quarter of the 16th century, the church was enriched with significant additions, including a south side and a Renaissance-style door. The flamboyant western rose, dating from the late 15th century, and the octagonal steeple with high arrow, illustrate the architectural evolution of the building between late Gothic and Renaissance. These transformations reflect the artistic influences of the period and the growing importance of Fraze as a percheron village.
Listed as a Historical Monument in 1987, the Church of Notre Dame embodies the religious and architectural heritage of the region. Its outdoor restoration, conducted between 2013 and 2016 for an amount of 1.2 million euros, highlights the contemporary commitment to preserve this witness from the 12th and 16th centuries. The Renaissance gate, decorated with atlantes and a frieze of interlaces, as well as the northwest cylindrical tower, add to its exceptional character.
Frazé, one of the most picturesque villages in Perche, is built around its church and castle, both inscribed in a loop of the Foussard river. This natural and historical setting, coupled with the presence of percheron manors such as those of the Châtellier or Cormier, reinforces the heritage attraction of the commune, recognized in 2019 as representative of the region Centre-Val de Loire in the program Le Village favoreur des Français.
