Origin and history
The church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur de Moulineaux, located in the Seine-Maritime, was originally a royal chapel before becoming a parish church in the early 13th century. It was placed under the patronage of Saint-Julien de Petit-Quevilly. The baptismal fonts were dedicated to it in 1240, marking an important step in its religious history. In the 16th century, the Carabas family offered a carved wooden skirt, enriching the artistic heritage of the building.
The church underwent a significant restoration in the second half of the 19th century, led by architect Lucien Lefort. This intervention preserved historical elements, including wall paintings dating from the 13th and 17th centuries. Ranked a historic monument in 1840, it reflects the architectural and religious evolution of Normandy.
Today, the church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur remains an emblematic place of Moulineaux, combining medieval heritage and modern restorations. Its interior decorations, such as the jube and the paintings, illustrate artistic influences throughout the centuries. It is still owned by the commune and open to the public, perpetuating its role in local life.
