Origin and history
The church of Saint-Yves de Minihy-Tréguier finds its origins in a chapel founded by Saint-Yves (Yves Hélory de Kermartin) in the 13th century on his family land. Originally dedicated to Notre-Dame and Saint-Tugdual, she took the name of Saint-Yves after her canonization. In 1418, an arrow was added to the small tower, and a carved wooden skirt separated the sanctuary from the nave. The current building, dating from the mid-15th century, preserves coats of arms on the arch keys and decorations characteristic of this period. Part of the north wall could go back to the early chapel.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the church became the seat of a parish and was enlarged westward between 1819 and 1824, with a new facade and a bell tower rebuilt from ancient elements (balustrades, pinnacles). The date of 1819 is engraved on the façade. In 1853, a sacristy was added to the south, and in 1889 the pinnacles of the foothills and the guardrails of the roof were renovated. The high altar, by Jean Larchantec (1872), and stained glass windows complete the interior layout.
The church was originally the chapel of the Kermartin mansion, linked to a chapelry (domain with land income) founded by Saint Yves in 1293. The chaplains lived in a house of the chaplains, still mentioned today. Ranked a Historic Monument in 1923, it now belongs to the municipality. Its architecture thus blends medieval heritage (ogival vaults, porches) and 19th century transformations.
