Origin and history

The Sainte-Marie-des-Fontenelles Church is a Catholic building located in the Fontenelles district of Nanterre (Hautes-de-Seine). His choir, oriented southwest, is a rare feature due to the configuration of the terrain. The vessel consists of a vessel divided into six spans, completed by a semicircular bedside. A frame in the south houses three bells installed in 1931, adding to its architectural character.

The history of the church begins with the gift of the land, located on the old avenue of Puteaux (today Avenue Felix Faure), by Marie Allez. In 1920, the place was erected as a parish and consecrated in 1923. A new consecration takes place on 9 June by Cardinal Amette, although the exact year is not specified in the sources. In 2017, a restoration campaign (heating, cracks, stained glass) was conducted by the Cardinal's Buildings Work.

Parish life is marked by an annual procession on 8 December, the day of the feast of the Immaculate Conception, linking the chapel of Saint Joseph-des-Fontenelles to the church. This ritual illustrates the local anchoring of the building in the nanterrian religious traditions. The church remains an active place of worship, bearing witness to the urban and spiritual evolution of the neighborhood since the beginning of the twentieth century.
