Origin and history

The church of Sainte-Bernadette in Levallois-Perret is a Catholic building built in the Hauts-de-Seine, under the name of Saint Bernadette. It is characterized by modern architecture, with a rectangular room illuminated by two fully glazed facades, works by Max Ingrand made in 1959. These stained glass windows, extending from floor to ceiling, surround a repositioned altar, giving the building a remarkable artistic originality. The cross-shaped concrete tower dominates the structure, reinforcing its visual identity.

The church was built thanks to an exchange of land with the Compagnie Saint-Gobain, which financed its construction in 1959 in return for parish plots. This partnership allowed the company to set up its head office, designed simultaneously by the same actors, including architect Pierre Bonin and decorator Max Ingrand. The blessing took place on November 15, 1959. In February 2025, the Île-de-France region awarded him the Heritage of Regional Interest label, recognizing the value of Max Ingrand's stained glass windows.

Integrated into the parish of Saint-Justin in the diocese of Nanterre, the church of Sainte-Bernadette shares its spiritual territory with the churches of Saint-Justin and Sainte-Reine. It hosts Sunday Masses at 10.30am and weekly on Wednesday at 12.15pm, thus becoming part of local religious life. Its history also reflects the urban dynamics of Levallois-Perret, where modern heritage and economic development intersect.
