Origin and history
The church Saint-Martin de Deluz, located in the Doubs department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, was built during the 2nd quarter of the 18th century. Its construction, which was decided in 1736, was intended to replace an earlier building that had been considered obsolete, described as "deadly fallen." The work culminated in his solemn consecration on 22 September 1746, marking his entry into the local religious landscape.
The building is distinguished by its bell tower topped by a dome roof "to the imperial", a notable architectural characteristic. Of rectangular plan (27.7 m x 17.9 m), its nave has three spans, reflecting the aesthetic cannons of the time. The church houses remarkable furniture, including elements classified as historical monuments, such as the high altar, the baptismal fonts (18th century), or statuettes and credences of Louis XVI style.
On the administrative level, the church depends on the parish of Notre-Dame d'Aigremont (entering Roulans) and the diocese of Besançon. It was listed as historic monuments by order of 21 June 1988, thereby recognizing its heritage value. Among the artisans who contributed to his creation, Jean-Pierre Galezot is mentioned as a masterpiece, although few biographical details are available.
The protected furniture also includes 19th century side altars, as well as liturgical objects classified in 1978 and 1979. These elements reflect the evolution of religious and artistic practices between the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the church remains an active place of worship while constituting an architectural testimony of the Franche-Comté d'Ancien Régime.
The location of the building, at 1 Church Street in Deluz, is specified in the heritage bases (Merimée), with an estimated geographical accuracy to passable (level 5/10). Owned by the municipality, the church continues to play a central role in local life, between historical memory and contemporary religious practice.
