Origin and history

The church Saint-Pierre is a religious monument located in Créquy, in the department of Pas-de-Calais, in the Hauts-de-France region. This place of worship, typical of Christian architecture, is distinguished by the presence of burials under its choir, linked to local history and the family of Crequy.

Medieval and post-medieval churches, like Crequy, played a central role in community life. They served not only as a place of prayer, but also as a space for gathering, commemorating and burial for the noble or influential families of the region. Their architecture often reflected the social status of sponsors and the religious importance of the place.

Several members of the family of Créquy, a noble line associated with this locality, were buried there under the choir. This practice, common among aristocratic families, was intended to mark their attachment to a territory and to perpetuate their memory within a sacred edifice.
