Church of Silly: inscription by decree of 10 April 1929

Origin and history

The church of Silly, located in the municipality of Silly-Tillard (Oise, Hauts-de-France), is a religious building built in the 13th century. This monument, typical of the medieval architecture of the region, was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 10 April 1929, thus recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the commune, there remains a testimony of the religious and community practices of the period in Picardia.

In the 13th century, parish churches such as Silly's played a central role in village life. They also served as social and political landmarks, often hosting assemblies or markets. In Beauvais, a region marked by prosperous agriculture and growing trade, these buildings reflected both collective faith and local power, often linked to the bishopric of Beauvais or the seigneuries.

Their preservation until today offers an overview of the spatial and spiritual organization of medieval countryside.
