Origin and history

The church of the Sacred Heart of Agen, classified as a Historical Monument, was built in 1876 by architect Paul Abadie. The initial project remained unfinished on the north side, leaving a partial neo-Gothic structure. The stained glass windows, made at the end of the 19th century by glass painters Dagrant and Leuzy, still adorn the building.

In 1947, architect Henri Vidal completed the bell tower according to his plans of 1938-1939, introducing a "modern" style marked by the use of reinforced concrete. This contrast between neo-gothic and architectural modernity today characterizes the monument. The church was registered by decree of 7 December 2000, becoming communal property.

Located in Toulouse (or 3 Rue Jégun de Marans according to sources), the church illustrates the evolution of techniques and tastes between two centuries. Its history also reflects the challenges of religious construction during a period of stylistic transition, mixing medieval heritage and 20th century innovations.
