Origin and history
The Saint-Hippolyte church of Moulidars is a Romanesque building built in the 12th century, typical of the religious architecture of this period. It is distinguished by its facade decorated with arches on the ground floor and a cornice with small arches supporting the upper floor. A Romanesque rose, emblematic of Romanesque art, decorates the left transept, testifying to the stylistic influence of the period.
Partly destroyed by fire, the church was redesigned in the 15th century, incorporating architectural changes while retaining original elements. The façade, classified as Historic Monument by decree of 14 September 1912, illustrates the heritage value of the building. The rest of the building, with the exception of this façade, was inscribed by decree of 2 April 2019, confirming its historical and cultural importance.
Located in Moulidars, in the Charente department (New Aquitaine), the church is now owned by the commune. Its exact address, 4 Rue de l'Eglise, and its Insee code (16234) allow to locate it precisely in the former Poitou-Charentes region. The building, open to the visit, embodies the medieval religious heritage of the region, marked by centuries of history and transformation.
