Origin and history

The church Saint-Léger is a religious monument located in the commune of Molèdes, in the department of Cantal, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is distinguished by an architecture blending original 12th-century Romanesque elements, later modifications in the 16th and 19th centuries, and stained-glass windows signed by Champrobert, dated 1877. These characteristics illustrate its stylistic evolution and its adaptation to liturgical needs throughout the centuries.

The building has been officially recognized for its heritage value by registration as historic monuments, effective since the Order of 9 June 1992. This protection concerns the entire church, identified under the cadastral reference D 1017, and underlines its importance in the local architectural and religious heritage. The property of the church belongs to the municipality of Molèdes, which shows its anchoring in community life.

The stained glass windows of the church of Saint-Léger, made by the glassmaker Champrobert in 1877, constitute a remarkable part of his heritage. These works, typical of the 19th century, add an artistic and historical dimension to the building, reflecting the techniques and tastes of the time. Their presence also strengthens the link between the church and local crafts, while offering visual testimony of the religious practices of this period.

The location of the church, specified by GPS coordinates and the cadastral address, places the monument in the heart of the village of Molèdes, in a rural environment characteristic of the Cantal. This geographical location, combined with its status as a historical monument, makes it a point of interest for the study of the built heritage and religious history of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
