Origin and history

The Saint-Médard church of Reugny, dedicated to Saint Médard, is a religious building located in the village of Reugny, in Indre-et-Loire. Its nave, dating from the 12th century, is covered with modern vaults and its facade has been strongly restored. It ends with a span of vaulted choir in the angeline manner, also restored. Two side chapels were added: one to the north, from the thirteenth century, and one to the south, from the fifteenth century.

The southern chapel, divided into two spans, houses a wooden cradle painted in its eastern part. These paintings, commissioned around 1609 or 1610 by the mother of Jean de La Baume Le Blanc, celebrate the marriage of his son. The coat of arms of this family, cut with gold and mouths, also adorn the vault key of an adjacent seigneurial chapel. The fully restored and interior of the church bear inscriptions, including one commemorating Laurent Le Blanc, who died in the siege of Ostend in 1602.

In December 2020, the church bell tower, considered unstable, was dismantled for public safety reasons. This bell tower, characteristic of the region's religious buildings, was a remarkable heritage element. The successive restorations, especially on the nave and l'abside, bear witness to efforts to preserve this monument linked to local history and the family of La Baume Le Blanc.
