Origin and history
Hotel Claveurier is a private hotel located in Poitiers, Vienna, New Aquitaine. Built around 1425, it is the work of Maurice Claveurier, lieutenant-general of the Sénéchalite and mayor of Poitiers. The latter brought together his own house with that acquired from the Flemish imagier Hennequin de La Porte, creating an emblematic building of medieval civil architecture.
Before the French Revolution, the building housed the Faulcon-Barbier printing house, demonstrating its role in the cultural and economic life of the city. The facade and roof of the hotel were registered as historical monuments by decree of 22 November 1949, thus recognizing their heritage value.
Today, the Claveurier Hotel remains a remarkable example of 15th century architecture in Poitiers. Although owned by a private company, its history reflects the urban and social dynamics of the city throughout the centuries, from its construction to its use as the seat of a pre-revolutionary printing press.
