Origin and history
The building at 28 Rue de Cahors in Sarlat-la-Canéda is an 18th century house, representative of the local architectural style. The main building is distinguished by its two wings in return for square, framing a Louis XV style portal. The latter, decorated with patterns such as oves and a shell, is flanked by two flat pillars decorated with Greek volutes and topped with pots of fire. The protruding cornice adds to the elegance of the ensemble.
Ranked a Historic Monument, this building was partially protected by order of 4 December 1945, specifically covering the gate, facades and roofs. The precise location, although noted as "passable" (level 5/10), places the building in the historic center of Sarlat-la-Canéda, a city known for its medieval and Renaissance heritage. Decorative elements such as volutes and pots reflect the influence of classic French styles adapted to regional traditions.
The type of construction, with its wings in return, suggests a spatial organization typical of bourgeois or craft houses of the era. The Louis XV portal, the most remarkable element, illustrates the taste for refined ornamentation that characterized 18th-century civil architecture in Périgord. No information is available about the original owners or the precise uses of the building over the centuries.
