Origin and history
The building at 7 Avenue du Maréchal-Foch in Mulhouse is a historic monument registered since 1986. This building, built during the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, illustrates the civil architecture of this period in the Mulhusian region. Its facades and roofs, protected by ministerial decree, reflect the local architectural style of the period.
The city of Mulhouse, integrated into the Haut-Rhin department in Alsace (now Grand Est), experienced a marked urban development in the 19th century, linked to its early industrialization. The buildings of this period, like this one, bear witness to the economic prosperity of the Mulhousian bourgeoisie, often linked to the textile industry. Their preservation allows us to understand the architectural and social evolution of the city.
The building was designed under the direction of Jean-Geoffroy Stotz, the project manager, and architect Felix Fries. Their collaboration gave rise to a building representative of the techniques and tastes of the time. The designation of historic monuments in 1986 underlines its heritage importance, particularly for its external elements (facades and roofs).
