Origin and history
The building on 15 rue Haute (formerly rue Gambetta) in Honfleur is an emblematic building of 16th and even 15th century civil architecture. Built in wood and stone, this bourgeois house is distinguished by its corbellations and carved sandstones, representing vine stocks, human faces and animals. Its style reflects the opulence of the affluent families of the time, although sponsors remain unknown.
The façade and roof of the building were listed in the Historic Monuments on January 29, 1954, recognizing its heritage value. Located in the Calvados department, this house illustrates the craftsmanship of the Norman Renaissance. Its location in the rue Haute, historic artère of Honfleur, reinforces its importance in the medieval urban landscape.
Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its state of conservation and its role in local heritage. Although little documented, this house bears witness to Honfleur's cultural and economic exchanges, a dynamic port in the Middle Ages. Its architecture combines Norman tradition and external influences, typical of the port cities of the time.
