Origin and history

The building in Ajaccio, built between the 18th and 19th centuries, houses an apartment that has belonged to the Baciocchi family for centuries. Their presence in the city would go back to its foundation between 1585 and 1592. This architectural heritage is distinguished by its painted decorations, probably made around 1830, when Count Baciocchi held the office of mayor of Ajaccio.

The building chapel, perhaps dated from the 18th century, is decorated with a false ceiling in molded and painted wood. The whole, including vestibule, living room, bedroom with alcove, chapel, library and kitchen, was classified as Historic Monument by order of 27 October 1992. These elements reflect the historical and cultural importance of the Baciocchi family in the region.

The exact address of the building, 9 rue Bonaparte, and its Insee code (2A004) are located in the department of South Corsica. Despite an approximate GPS location (4 Bonaparte Street), the monument remains an architectural and family testimony to the history of Ajacca.
