Origin and history

This building, located in Montbéliard, in the Doubs department, was rebuilt in 1910 by architect Jean Walter. Sponsored by Frédéric Blazer Mettey, it was intended to host a shop of mercery and fashions. The monogram "FB" still adorns the key to the shop's opening arch, while the original front door has now disappeared. The facade and roof slope were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 27 January 1992.

The building bears a date and a signature, now hidden by a modern frontage, according to oral testimonies. The building illustrates the business architecture of the early 20th century, typical of industrially expanding city centres such as Montbéliard, then marked by the rise of craft and retail activities.

The exact address, 8 rue Cuvier (or 12 according to GPS sources), places the building in a central district of Montbéliard. Although the location is considered "passible" (note 5/10), the building remains an architectural and historical testimony to the urban evolution of the city at the beginning of the twentieth century. No information is available on its current accessibility (visit, rental, etc.).
