Building (Case I 171): classification by decree of 11 March 1927

Origin and history

The Locronan building, located on Church Square, is one of the 16th and 17th century houses bordering the historic heart of the village. These constructions, typical of the Breton Renaissance architecture, bear witness to the local prosperity associated with the artisanal and commercial activities of the period, including the manufacture of sailing canvas, which made Locronan famous. Their preservation offers an overview of urban planning and the way of life of the inhabitants under the Old Regime.

The Place de Locronan, around which this architectural ensemble is organized, preserves in its center a communal well, central element of collective life. This well, a symbol of shared resources, recalls the importance of water in the social and daily organisation of Breton villages. The specific building, classified as Historic Monument by decree of 11 March 1927 (cadastre reference I 171), illustrates the desire to protect this built heritage, reflecting a pivotal period between the Middle Ages and the modern era.

The data available, especially from the Merimée database and Monumentum, highlight the precise address of the building: 15 Church Square, in the municipality of Locronan (code Insee 29134), located in the Finistère. Although GPS location is considered "passable" (note 5/10), this information allows the monument to be located in its geographical and administrative context within the Brittany region. No additional information is provided on any contemporary uses (visits, accommodation) or on characters related to its construction or history.
