Origin and history

The building located at 28 rue Barbès in Beaucaire is a mansion owned by the Roys de Ledignan family. Its structure consists of a ground floor, an honour floor and an attic. The ground floor, divided into five spans, has a cochère door with well preserved ion carpentry, while the bays are decorated with vermiculated stones. These architectural details reflect a concern for elegance and symmetry typical of the aristocratic homes of the time.

On the first floor, four windows are equipped with a balcony of wrought ironwork, and the entire floor is covered with diamond stones, rare decorative technique and prestigious. Originally, trophies adorned the pediment of each window, but these were removed or erased. The six-eye-of-beef-drilled diamond-stone machine is used to strengthen the stylistic unit of the façade. These architectural features underline the high social status of the owners.

The building was partially protected by an order of 31 January 1946, specifically covering its facades and roofs. This inscription in the title of Historic Monuments attests to its heritage value, linked to the quality of its decorations and its history associated with a local noble family. Today, although its current use is not specified, its conservation allows to testify to the civil architectural heritage of Beaucaire and the Occitanie region.
