Origin and history

The building located in Beaucaire, in the Gard, is distinguished by its architecture adorned with a thick tore-shaped bandeau at the allegories of the windows on the first floor. This sculptural decor is complemented by a group of three characters in relief, arranged asymmetrically: the central character, curved and dominating the street, serves to support the two other busts placed on both sides, less prominent. These elements give the facade a monumental and narrative character, typical of certain civil achievements of medieval or modern times.

Above this group, a corner niche surmounted by a dais houses a statue of the Virgin, highlighting the religious dimension often integrated into the urban buildings of this period. The whole, with the exception of the statue itself, was protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments on December 6, 1949, attesting to its heritage value. The precise address, 12 rue Nationale, places the building in a historic area of Beaucaire, marked by an old building and traces of local craftsmanship.

Approximate location and poor cartographic accuracy (level 5/10) suggest a monument less documented than others, but whose architectural details — such as the play of volumes between busts and niche — reveal a technical mastery and symbolic intent. These characteristics bear witness to the artistic practices and devotees of urban communities in Languedoc, before its integration into modern Occitanie.
