Origin and history

The building 4 Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux is a building representative of 18th century civil architecture. It is part of a coherent urban complex, marked by the royal square designed under the Old Regime, symbol of the economic and political prestige of the city, then large commercial port linked to triangular commerce. Its exact location, confirmed by the Merimée bases and GPS coordinates, corresponds to the historic address of the Place, the neoclassical heart of Bordeaux.

The heritage protection of this building extends over several legal stages. The facade and roofs were classified in 1916, reflecting their early architectural value. In 2019, unprotected parts of the surrounding buildings were registered, and in 2020, a decree expanded the ranking to all private hotels in the square (including the Bourse Hotel and the Customs Hotel), as well as to their courtyard and fountain. These measures illustrate the desire to preserve the integrity of a major Bordeaux heritage site.

Available sources (including Monumentum and Merimée data) highlight the importance of this monument in the urban landscape. Although the practical information on its visit or current use (rental, open to the public) is not specified, its status as a Historic Monument and its central location make it a point of interest for the history of Bordeaux. The accuracy of its location is assessed as fair (note 5/10), suggesting improvement margins for geographic data.
