Origin and history
The building located in 7 Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux is an 18th century building, representative of Bordeaux's classical architecture. It is part of a coherent urban complex, marked by the symmetry and elegance of the facades, typical of the achievements of this period in the region. The Place de la Bourse, former Place Royale, was a strategic place for commerce and administration, reflecting Bordeaux's economic dynamism in the Enlightenment century.
The protection of this building began in 1916, with the classification of its facade and roofs by ministerial decree. In 2019 and 2020, new protective measures expanded this heritage recognition to include unprotected parts of surrounding buildings, as well as specific elements such as the courtyard and fountain of the Hotel de la Douane. These successive rankings underline the historical and architectural importance of this site, today at the heart of Bordeaux heritage.
The coordinates available in the Merimée database indicate two addresses: one official (7 Place de la Bourse) and a GPS approximation (3 Rue Leupold). This duality reflects the challenges of precise location in heritage databases, where accuracy may vary by source. The assigned location rating (5/10, "passible") suggests a margin of uncertainty about the geographic accuracy of current data.
