The façade on the courtyard and the corresponding roof (Box F 177): inscription by decree of 3 February 1966
Origin and history
The building located in the 50th course of the Red Hat in Bordeaux is an emblematic 18th century building, characterized by refined architecture. Its ground floor houses a shop with three square openings, while the basement has rounded bays framed by a projecting apparatus. These elements highlight the attention paid to symmetry and decorative details, specific to the Bordeaux urban planning of this period.
The first floor is distinguished by a balcony supported by carved consoles, adorned with lion heads, a recurring motif in classical art. Three mulled window doors, topped by carved bands, open onto this balcony. Heads and rinceaux, framed by consoles, support a richly decorated cornice. The second floor takes over this decoration, while a stone balustrade, laid on a moulure cornice, crowned together.
Ranked a Historic Monument by order of 3 February 1966, this building illustrates Bordeaux's civil architectural heritage. Only its façade on the courtyard and the corresponding roof are protected (cadastre F 177). Private property, it reflects the economic and cultural dynamism of the city in the Enlightenment century, where trade and urban beautification went hand in hand.
