The façade on the course and the corresponding cover (Box KN 0261): inscription by decree of 14 September 1965
Origin and history
The building, located during the 6th century in Bordeaux, is a representative example of civil architecture in the second half of the 18th century. Its façade, classified as Historic Monument since 1965, is distinguished by neat decorative elements: old door on the ground floor, bays on the first floor decorated with carved keys and garlands, and arched. These details reflect the influence of the classic and rococo styles that were popular in Bordeaux during this prosperous period, marked by the maritime trade and the enrichment of the local bourgeoisie.
On the second floor, the windows feature carved keys surmounted by panels representing oak branches, often associated with strength and durability. The ensemble is crowned with an architrave cornice, itself surmounted by a stone balustrade decorated with decorative vases. These elements underline the concern for elegance and symmetry characteristic of Bordeaux private hotels of the time. The building, now owned by a private company, illustrates the city's preserved architectural heritage, although its exact location is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10).
The protection of the building, limited to the façade on the courtyard and its cover, dates from a decree of 14 September 1965. This partial classification reflects the desire to preserve the most emblematic elements of the 18th century Bordeaux architecture, while allowing an adaptation of interior spaces to contemporary uses. The exact address, 6 courtyards of the Intendance, places the building in a central historical district, close to other major monuments of the city.
