The façade on the courtyard and the corresponding roof (Box K 215, 217): inscription by decree of 8 September 1965

Origin and history

The building located in the 60 course of the Intendance in Bordeaux is distinguished by its facade made of cut stone, treated in masonry with bossing. Three large arcades structure the ground floor and the basement, while the original carpentry was replaced by modern grids. The first floor is marked by a balcony on consoles, and the bays alternate between decorated and simple spans, all crowned by a cornice on consoles. The building was originally to be connected to the neighbouring building at No. 58.

The protection of this monument relates specifically to the façade overlooking the courtyard and its corresponding roof, inscribed by decree of 8 September 1965. Owned by a private company, its current state does not permit a public visit. The location, although indicated in the Merimée database, is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10), with an address confirmed in the 60 course of Stewardship in the Gironde department (code Insee 33063).

Architecturally, the building illustrates a classic treatment of Bordeaux facades, mixing decorative elements (balcony, cornice) and functional structure (archives, bays). Subsequent changes, such as the replacement of carpentry, reflect adaptation to contemporary uses while maintaining essential heritage features. The mention of his inscription in the title of Historic Monuments underlines his interest in the urban heritage of Bordeaux, in the wider context of New Aquitaine.
