The façade and roof (Box F 661): inscription by decree of 17 April 1952

Origin and history

The building located 4 square of the Parliament in Bordeaux is part of an architectural complex of the eighteenth century, marked by a homogeneous and elegant order. The square, formerly called Place du Marché Royal, forms an irregular quadrilateral where each building has a commercial ground floor, two noble floors and a third attic treatise. The set, crowned with a balustrade cornice and an attic, is entirely constructed of cut stone, with carved details like masks and shells adorning the keys of yousures. All the windows have wrought iron balconies, typical of the Bordeaux style of the time.

The building was built in 1754, according to the archives available. It is part of a coherent urban project, reflecting the architectural fascist of the Enlightenment in Bordeaux, then in full economic expansion thanks to maritime trade. The façade and roof were protected by a registration order for the Historic Monuments on 17 April 1952, recognizing their heritage value.

The exact location, 5 place du Parlement (33000 Bordeaux), corresponds to the Insee 33063 code for the commune of Bordeaux, in the department of Gironde. Although the practical information on current visits or uses is not detailed, the building remains a major testimony of the 18th century Bordeaux urban planning, combining commercial and residential functions in a rigorous aesthetic setting.
